Spring!
As I write this, the bulbs are bursting through the soil in the garden giving us hope that Spring is on its way, but looking out of the window this morning, the promised drizzle is, in fact, light snow. Are we ever going to see the sun again?
Indoors, however, it has been a busy winter despite the fact that the book is no more. I have been amazed at how generous editors of UK magazines have been in not only picking up some of the 'book' projects but asking me for more. I just hope that the readers don't start getting bored seeing my name more regularly.
I have been working on a small wallhanging, which will make its first appearance at what was 'Quilts in the Garden' but has now become 'The Embroidery & Quilt Show', which is to be held at Uttoxeter Racecourse on 15, 16 and 17th April. Another project has been to make a complete set of Victorian clothing (including undies) for a wire mannequin I have had for some time. You can now click on 'Mannequin - a history of fashion dolls' on the left hand side of the website Homepage and see a series of photographs of all the items made. Hopefully, this will make its way to the Festival of Quilts to be exhibited in the 'Quilt Creations' category later this year.
Already, a couple of magazine articles have been published - one showcasing my friend Sue Goodman's 'Crafty Life', in the current issue of Workbox magazine and a Redwork Double Wedding Ring Cushion project in February/March issue of 'Fabrications' magazine. I had a wonderful morning 'interviewing' Sue for her article and found out so much more about her than I already knew and it was a real pleasure to record.
I see from the Twisted Thread website http://www.twistedthread.com/ that tickets will go on sale from 1st March 2011 for my Academy workshop 'Colourful Wholecloth Hand Quilting' which is aimed at more experienced hand quilters and will hopefully give them new ideas and inspiration for their future work.
I am looking forward to my first talk of the year which I have been invited to give to the Norfolk Lacemakers in Norwich, on 5th March. It promises to be a big occasion with possibly over one hundred lacemakers travelling from all over the surrounding area. It will also give me an opportunity afterwards to look around at the wonderful work they do and write another article for 'Workbox' magazine, which will be published later in the year.
Once again, the Grosvenor Spring Quilt Festivals are upon us and Sue, Margaret and I will be making our way to Chilford in a couple of weeks time. It promises to be another tempting exhibition of quilts and of course trade stands where I am sure I will have need to stock up with all the fabric and threads I have been using over the winter months. I hope I shall be able to meet up with some of you there again.
Happy quilting,
Jacquie
