YET MORE SHOWTIME!

Well, within a week, the Festival of Quilts will start at the NEC in Birmingham.  I won't be travelling there until early Friday morning with friends Sue (our lovely driver) and Carin from Tokyo.  We will be staying until the Monday morning, which will give us plenty of time to meet up with old friends, make new ones and of course see the quilts and splash the cash.

My new friend, this year, from Australia, is Michele Hill (she of 'William Morris in Applique' fame).  She will be travelling all the way across the world with her husband Larry, to teach and lecture at FOQ and I think there are still a few tickets to be had for her lecture on Friday evening and one or two workshop places on Sunday (see http://www.twistedthread.com/ for details).  Michele is also my writing buddy in that she and I share the same publisher although Michele is way further down the line in that her second book 'More William Morris in Applique) is being printed as I write in time for release in October (see http://www.countrybumpkin.com.au/ ) for details.  I have seen the photos of the ten new projects and they are wonderful.  How she thinks up all these wonderful designs is amazing and when she has left Birmingham, she will be visiting Kelmscott again to do some more research into William Morris for perhaps another book?

I have entered my christening gown and a miniature quilt into the competitions this year so I will leave you to hunt for them if you so wish.  However, I will be demonstrating on the Guild Traditional Group stand on Saturday and Sunday from 11.00 to 3.00 (hopefully with time to grab a sandwich and have a comfort break) so do please come and see me.  I will be able to show you my new 'colourful' wholecloth style as well as the quilt I am currently working on.  Those of you who have completed your Block of the Month quilts since I last saw you, do please bring them along to show me.  I have seen quite a few this year as well as being sent photos and they are all stunning and all quite different.  It is such a shame that we were not able to show them at the Festival this year.

For those of you who will not be able to visit Birmingham and may want to have a little hand quilting project to do this autumn, might be interested in my Art Decco zipped purse project which is in the Patchwork & Quilting Inspirational Projects booklet, which is being published to co-incide with the 200th issue of the magazine, which will be on sale at FOQ.  I was asked to contribute something some time ago and to be honest I had forgotten all about it, until they sent me a copy.  I was very pleased with the way it looked as well as being able to see the other 11 new designs by other well-known quilt makers, including a real beauty by none other than Lynne Edwards OBE.

My book is now at the stage where all the projects and text are safely with the publisher in Australia and now it will start to be moulded into shape.  I am having a couple of weeks break and will get back to writing yet more text at the beginning of September.

I am looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible in Birmingham but will let everyone know how things went shortly after.

Until then, happy quilting,

Jacquie
