Welcome to 2009

How quickly the New Year has come around again and now we say hello to 2009. I think all of us are getting a little weary of the winter weather but at least it requires us to stay indoors and wrap ourselves in our quilts and make some more.

This year is going to be another exciting year for me as I have a cot quilt project being published in the next issue of 'Inspirations' magazine. 'Inspirations' is published in Australia and concentrates more on embroidery, however occasionally, they do include some patchwork and quilting items and this time it will be one of my little quilts.

I am also starting a mystery wallhanging for 'Patchwork and Quilting' magazine, starting in two weeks time, which has been fun to make and features the DMC threads which I use regularly in my work these days.

My greatest achievement over the past year and continuing into the new year is the Block of the Month project, created for the members of the Traditional Group of the Quilters' Guild. With the technical help of my son Nick, we have now attracted 95 members to take part mainly on-line but also some by post. The blocks, which are made each month, are secondary to the friendships which have been made between the members of the Group, who still haven't met each other in person. It is quite amazing how we started off last year being very polite to each other and now, messages are flying around with jokes, ideas and sympathy, when needed, amongst a group of old friends. All this is before we actually see the achievment of everyone when they eventually finish their little quilts and I do hope that by the time the Festival of Quilts comes around this year, many of them will be ready for a show and tell. It has been great fun and I have made a lot of lovely friends along the way.

All I can do now is to wish you all a very Happy New Year and look forward to meeting up with many of you at shows, both local and national, throughout the year.

Best wishes and happy quilting,

Jacquie
